While Dreame does not operate physical service centers, the company offers a convenient pickup and delivery service for repairs.
What’s in the Box and Design
Upon unboxing, you’ll find the Dreame X40 Ultra accompanied by a tall docking station, cleaning solution, side brush, two debris removal tools, mop pads, a power cord, and the robot vacuum itself. The base station houses separate containers for clean and dirty mop water.
The vacuum’s round design houses a laser-based navigation system at the top, along with an array of sensors, including an LED auxiliary light, AI-based infrared and HD cameras, a laser distance sensor, and 3D dual line sensors. After cleaning, the robot automatically empties its dustbin, refills its mop tank, and dispenses cleaning solution—all without the need for user intervention. This hands-free operation allows for weeks of cleaning without manual involvement, with the clean water tank holding up to 200ml of solution.
While the app offers powerful features, its interface feels slightly outdated, and some settings are buried within multiple layers. Additionally, there’s a noticeable lag in the camera feed.
Cleaning Power and Customization
Boasting an impressive 12,000 Pa suction power, the Dreame X40 Ultra offers various cleaning modes, including vacuum-only, mop-only, and a combined vacuum-and-mop mode for faster cleaning. The device also features several suction settings: quiet, standard, turbo, and max. The CleanGenius mode automatically adjusts the cleaning parameters for optimal performance.
Users can further customize their cleaning experience with options for vacuuming and mopping by room, and specific wetness levels (slightly dry, moist, or wet). Additionally, the robot’s mop pad washing frequency can be set based on the area cleaned or a time interval. The vacuum’s AI features intelligently guide it through cleaning tasks, and the robot is compatible with Alexa, Google Home, and Siri.
Innovative Features
A standout feature of the Dreame X40 Ultra is its extendable and liftable side brush. This brush rises up to 10mm, allowing it to efficiently clean edges and under furniture. It also boasts magnetic mop pads, which prevent rugs from getting damp when vacuuming. The MopExtend RoboSwing technology further enhances cleaning by lifting the mop heads to avoid moisture damage to carpets while cleaning hard-to-reach areas like chair legs and kitchen cabinets.
The Dreame X40 Ultra also uses AI to identify and avoid obstacles, including pets, and features a camera feed for remote monitoring. Although the vacuum performed well in picking up short human hair and lint, longer hair strands tended to get tangled in the brush. Dreame sells a TriCut brush designed to address hair tangling issues.
Dust and Water Tanks
The Dreame X40 Ultra’s base station includes a 300ml dust bag, capable of handling up to 75 days of use. While our two-week test did not fill the dust bag completely, it should last longer depending on the size of your home. The water tank holds 80ml of dirty water, and the large capacity clean water tank only needs to be refilled every few days.
The robot’s sensors also ensure that it prioritizes areas with dirt or wet messes. The base station efficiently empties the dustbin after each cleaning session, and the mop is automatically washed and dried with hot air to eliminate odors.
Noise and Conclusion
The Dreame X40 Ultra operates quietly on its lowest setting, but it becomes louder with higher suction power. The mopping and drying processes can be noisy, especially if you have toddlers at home. However, the vacuum avoids emptying tasks during Do Not Disturb periods, ensuring minimal disruption.
