The Miele Triflex HX2 Pro is the flagship model in the brand’s cordless vacuum range, offering a comprehensive bundle of attachments and features designed for maximum performance. While this high-end cleaner delivers exceptional suction and versatility, a few design quirks prevent it from being flawless despite its premium price.
As the home tech editor at Homes & Gardens, I’ve tested over 60 of the world’s top vacuum cleaners. In this review, I put the Miele Triflex HX2 Pro to the test in my home, our dedicated testing facility, and even a local pet shelter to evaluate its performance, particularly on pet hair and heavy-duty messes.
The Full Package
The Miele Triflex HX2 Pro is the most complete model in Miele’s cordless vacuum lineup. While Miele offers a more affordable Duoflex and Triflex variants, the Pro edition comes with the full array of attachments and an additional battery. Included in the box are a crevice tool, dusting brush, XXL upholstery tool, a spare battery, a charging tray, a wall mount, and two brush rolls designed specifically for hard floors and delicate carpets.
If the full set of accessories isn’t essential, more budget-friendly versions of the Triflex are available, priced up to $100s less.
The only setup required involves assembling the vacuum’s wand and floorhead, then charging the battery for about four hours before use.
Design and Functionality
A standout feature of the Miele Triflex is its unique three-in-one design. Unlike most cordless vacuums that can be disassembled to switch between a full-sized cleaner and a handheld unit, the Triflex HX2 allows you to reposition the vacuum unit either on the handle or on the floorhead. This design aims to offer flexibility when cleaning under furniture or reaching high areas.
Although this feature sounds innovative, it didn’t offer significant practical benefits during testing. The vacuum becomes quite cumbersome when reconfiguring, with the assembly process involving six steps, which is time-consuming. Additionally, the vacuum’s weight (8 lbs) makes it heavier than most other cordless options, making overhead cleaning uncomfortable regardless of configuration. The slight difference in maneuverability also didn’t impress, as it functioned similarly whether the unit was attached to the handle or the floorhead.
Performance Across Surfaces
The Triflex HX2 Pro impresses with its automatic suction adjustment. It detects the surface you’re cleaning and adapts its power accordingly. On hard floors, it reduces suction to conserve battery life, while on carpets, it ramps up suction for deeper cleaning. This adaptability places it among the top contenders for multi-surface vacuums.
The floorhead features brushes that are gentle enough for delicate floors like wood and tile but tough on dirt in carpets. When vacuuming, the floorhead maintains a strong suction seal to the floor, which helps ensure thorough cleaning. A unique feature of the Triflex is its ability to clean itself as it operates, something rarely seen in vacuums. In our tests with flour, which often clogs other vacuums, the Triflex HX2 effortlessly cleared the debris.
Though the vacuum’s LED headlights help illuminate the floor, they don’t quite match the visibility offered by lasers found in top Dyson models.
Maneuverability and Handling
One downside of the Triflex HX2 Pro is its limited maneuverability. Unlike other vacuums that rotate smoothly at the floorhead, the Triflex tilts when turned, which limits its agility. This lack of flexibility can make it harder to navigate tight spaces and corners.
Allergy-Friendly Features
The Triflex HX2 Pro is also equipped with a HEPA filter that exceeds industry standards, capturing 99.999% of dust particles. This makes it an excellent choice for allergy sufferers, ensuring that even fine dust is trapped effectively.
Conclusion
While the Miele Triflex HX2 Pro offers top-notch cleaning power, versatility, and a full suite of attachments, its weight, somewhat cumbersome reconfiguration process, and limited maneuverability are minor drawbacks. Despite these quirks, it remains one of the best cordless vacuums for those who prioritize powerful suction and comprehensive cleaning across multiple surfaces.
