X50 Ultra: The Robotic Vacuum Redefining Home Cleaning

by BERG

The X50 Ultra Complete, known simply as the X50 Ultra in the U.S., stole the spotlight at the IFA trade show in Berlin in September 2024 with its groundbreaking “ProLeap” technology.

This innovation, featuring extendable robotic legs, allows the vacuum to navigate single steps of up to 4.2cm or combined steps of up to 6cm, earning it the moniker of the “stair-climbing robot.” While it won’t tackle your full staircase, it excels at overcoming home thresholds that have traditionally stopped other robot vacuums in their tracks.

But the X50 Ultra Complete isn’t just a one-trick pony. Dreame, a trusted name in the robot vacuum market, has packed its latest flagship model with premium features. After a month of rigorous testing, here’s a detailed look at its performance.

Design and Build

Robot vacuums capable of automating multiple functions usually come with larger docking stations, and the X50 Ultra Complete follows suit. Its cleaning and charging base measures 34 x 26 x 59cm, with added space for docking and a ramp.

Long gone are the days of sleek, low-profile robot vacuums that could stealthily hide under furniture. With features like self-emptying bins, mop automation, and mop-pad washing and drying, the X50 Ultra demands a larger footprint.

To offset its size, Dreame has put thought into aesthetics. Available in black or white, the dock features a metallic accent plate and a textured panel, lending a refined look. This is a thoughtful touch for those, like me, who don’t have space to tuck it away in a kitchen and instead need to place it in more visible living spaces.

Beneath the dock’s lid are two 4L water tanks—one for clean water and the other for dirty water. Behind the removable metallic front panel, you’ll find the dust bag and a compartment for detergent, a welcome addition for those wanting a deeper clean.

The robot itself is sleek yet functional. Its underside features two brush rollers, a unique “HyperStream Detangling DuoBrush” system designed to resist tangles. In my household, where hair tangles are a constant issue, the DuoBrush lived up to its promise, staying clean after multiple uses. However, the side sweeper still collected hair, a common drawback in traditional designs.

Innovative Features

On top of the robot is a retractable tower housing the DToF (Direct Time of Flight) sensors. This design, part of Dreame’s VersaLift technology, offers a 360-degree view for precise object detection and mapping while enabling the vacuum to clean under furniture as low as 9cm. Unlike many other vacuums, the X50 Ultra effortlessly maneuvered under my sofa.

Adding a functional yet stylish touch, the light ring surrounding the DToF tower changes color to indicate the robot’s mode, offering a sleek visual cue.

Conclusion

The X50 Ultra Complete delivers far more than its headline-grabbing step-climbing feature. From intelligent mapping to innovative cleaning technologies, Dreame’s flagship model strikes a balance between functionality and design. While it may require more space than smaller models, its powerful features and thoughtful design make it a worthy addition to any modern home.
