The Roborock Saros 10R stands out as a formidable player in the robotic vacuum market. Priced at $1,600, this sleek cleaning device boasts advanced features, including an enhanced navigation system, impressive suction power, and a self-sufficient charging and cleaning dock. However, this cutting-edge robot vacuum isn’t without its quirks—such as its loud noise and large docking station. If you’re ready to invest in a premium device, the Saros 10R delivers a thorough and high-performance cleaning experience, surpassing most others in its category.
At just 3.14 inches tall, the Saros 10R is Roborock’s thinnest model, making it capable of gliding under most furniture. Unlike other high-end vacuums, the Saros 10R features Roborock’s innovative StarSight Autonomous System, an internal AI navigation mechanism that uses cameras and transmitters to map rooms and avoid obstacles. This system eliminates the need for a rotating LiDar turret, providing a cleaner, less bulky design while enhancing its maneuverability in tight spaces.
The vacuum is equipped with an anti-tangle split main brush, a side brush to sweep dust from edges, and two magnetic mop pads that extend its functionality beyond vacuuming. These parts are easily detachable for cleaning, ensuring maintenance is straightforward if debris or cords become stuck.
A standout feature of the Saros 10R is its ability to lift itself over thresholds and carpets, making it ideal for homes with uneven floor levels. This capability ensures it can access areas other robots often struggle with, saving you from the need to manually assist it.
The Saros 10R’s charging dock is impressively large, measuring about 18 inches in height and 15 inches in width. This self-cleaning station not only recharges the vacuum but also empties its dustbin and cleans its mop pads using hot water. It also replenishes the vacuum’s water tank and detergent compartment for its next cleaning task, reducing the need for frequent manual intervention. Users are only required to top off the clean water and detergent and empty the dirty water tank and dust bag.
When it comes to cleaning performance, the Saros 10R excels on various surfaces—hardwood, tile, and carpets alike. Its suction power is more than adequate for picking up dirt, cereal, and other debris, with only a few passes needed on difficult tile surfaces with deep crevices. The mop feature is equally efficient, offering customizable water levels and even a re-mop option for particularly dirty areas.
In terms of navigation, the Saros 10R impresses with its room-mapping ability. After mapping a space, it not only identifies and avoids obstacles like shoes and toys but also labels them on the app map. Users can name rooms and set zone-specific preferences, such as excluding certain areas from mopping or enabling a quieter cleaning mode in certain rooms.
However, no product is without its flaws. The Saros 10R does have some navigation quirks, particularly when it comes to getting under certain furniture pieces. It took several attempts before it overcame its reluctance to clean under the dining table and couch, though this issue didn’t persist after a few tries. Additionally, while its camera navigation avoids most obstacles, it has a tendency to repeatedly pick up cables, especially in my office.
Another feature of note is the Saros 10R’s break-heavy cleaning process. Depending on the space’s size, the vacuum frequently returns to its dock for recharging, cleaning its mop pads, or refilling its water tank, extending cleaning times significantly. While this can be a bit of a disruption, the vacuum’s ability to handle specific tasks like deep cleaning routines or post-meal cleanups makes it a great option for larger, busier homes.
The Roborock app provides users with numerous settings, though it may feel overwhelming to those who prefer a more straightforward cleaning experience. However, for those who enjoy customizing their vacuuming routine, the app allows adjustments in suction power, cleaning patterns, and frequency. It also supports remote viewing, which can be entertaining or helpful for monitoring pets or children in the home. Voice control functionality is available, but its effectiveness may vary, especially when the vacuum is operating at full power.
At its premium price point, the Roborock Saros 10R may not be for everyone. However, for those with large, diverse spaces in need of thorough cleaning, this robotic vacuum is an impressive investment. It provides excellent performance, a variety of cleaning modes, and the convenience of a self-sufficient dock. Though the noise and occasional glitches can be off-putting, the Saros 10R is still one of the most capable robotic vacuums available.
