Conservation experts carefully clean some of the most historic buildings in the LTD using specialised machines made in the South West.
Advanced Doff Superheated Steam Heat Cleaners, manufactured by Gloucestershire-based Stonehealth, have brought Dundee’s old solid and brick buildings back to life, preserving and protecting them for decades to come.
Historic buildings and landmarks are often prone to a phenomenon known as slumping, where sandstone surfaces exposed to years of damp and freeze-thaw cycles slump.
Air pressure, superheated to 150ft, is the most delicate way to clean sensitive stonework.
Stonehealth, based in Camm, near Darsley, recently launched the Doff III, a successor to its Superheated Steam Cleaner, which is being favoured by architects, specifiers and cleaning industry professionals across the UK and around the world.
EcoGuard has been used on technically stunning buildings such as Dundee Custom House, built in 1842, and the former Dundee Bank Building, built in 1914.
The former bank is now used by the Alba Chiropractic Clinic, whose owners decided to carry out restoration work on the building’s roof and facade.
EcoGuard will be involved in more deadly projects in the city and surrounding areas in the coming months.

The Dundee-based company is one of only a handful of Doff users across the UK to have been approved to use the machine.
