The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) awarded the standard-type IoT Security Certification to Samsung Electronics’ Bespoke AI Steam Robot Vacuum Cleaner on the 17th. This marks the first-ever certification at the highest level of IoT security for a robot vacuum cleaner.
The meeting, held in the National Science and Technology Advisory Council’s main conference room, provided a platform for discussions on strengthening IoT product security, amid increasing adoption of devices such as robot vacuum cleaners, smart home cameras, and appliances.
Addressing IoT Security Challenges
As Internet of Things (IoT) products increasingly integrate into daily life, concerns over privacy breaches and hacking incidents have grown. To address this, the government launched the IoT Security Certification system in 2021, setting security standards for devices in areas closely connected to everyday life. In October, Korea also signed a mutual recognition agreement (MRA) with Singapore to enhance international IoT security standards.
Samsung’s Bespoke AI Steam Robot Vacuum Cleaner passed 43 rigorous test evaluation items to secure the highest certification level under the system.
Promoting Safe IoT Adoption
The Ministry of Science and ICT announced plans to introduce an IoT Security Certification label—comprising a certification mark and QR code—to help consumers easily identify and choose secure IoT products.
Second Vice Minister Kang Do-hyun emphasized, “While IoT products offer great convenience, awareness of security risks remains low. This first certification for robot vacuum cleaners will raise consumer awareness of IoT security and expand the availability of certified products, ensuring the public can safely enjoy IoT technology.”
