Vax HomePro Pet-Design Vacuum Cleaner Review: A Practical Solution for Pet Owners and Easy Maintenance

by BERG

Maintaining a vacuum cleaner can often feel like a chore, from clearing bin clogs to untangling hair from floorhead brushes. The Vax HomePro Pet-Design Vacuum Cleaner, however, aims to eliminate many of these issues with a smart design and user-friendly features that reduce maintenance.

This versatile vacuum replaces traditional brushes with a hair-resistant brush roll, while its clever bin design allows easy emptying without the mess. Additionally, attachments for every room, a flexible tube to reach under furniture, and a self-standing feature make the HomePro an ideal tool for both easy and tricky cleaning jobs.

Design and Build

The Vax HomePro offers a well-thought-out design that addresses common vacuuming challenges. For instance, its flexible wand features a slide-up mechanism, allowing the main tube to bend 90 degrees, making it easier to clean under low furniture. The vacuum can return to a stable position and self-stand, which is useful when you need a break between tasks.

Emptying the 700ml bin is also straightforward—just press a button to eject the contents without detaching it from the motor. The sliding mechanism further helps in clearing out any residual mess, and the filter is removable for washing.

The floorhead is equipped with lights to reveal hidden dirt and features a brush roll designed to prevent hair wrap. It also includes a protective bumper to avoid scratches on skirting boards and furniture.

Easy Operation

The Vax HomePro simplifies operation with minimal controls—just one button for power, another for turbo mode, and an indicator to show the battery level. The 4.0Ah battery is removable and charges separately from the wall mount, meaning you don’t need a nearby power outlet to charge it. However, the vacuum needs to be wall-mounted for storage, as it can be unstable when left standing.

Weighing 3.5kg, most of the weight is concentrated at the top of the vacuum, which can make it prone to tipping over when not in use. Nonetheless, it doesn’t occupy much wall space with its compact dimensions (H116 x W22 x D25cm).

Performance and Features

The HomePro shines when it comes to ease of use. The large control buttons and clear power indicator make it accessible for users with visual impairments or difficulty reading small screens. Its turbo mode offers powerful suction, and the absence of complex settings makes it a no-fuss option. It glides easily across various surfaces, and the flexible wand provides maneuverability, though we noted that too sharp an angle could cause the floorhead to lift.

The vacuum performed well on both hard floors and mid-pile carpets. On hard surfaces, it easily picked up flour and oats, though a few extra passes were needed for complete removal. On carpets, turbo mode was required to pick up all the oats, though some flour remained stuck to the brush fibers. However, pet hair was consistently collected without wrapping around the brush.

We tested the vacuum on upholstered furniture, using both the standard pet hair tool and the motorized pet hair tool. The pet hair tool worked well but was heavy on suction, while the motorized tool proved more effective in removing hair from soft surfaces.

Battery Life Concerns

While the HomePro’s makers claim a runtime of 45 minutes on standard mode with a non-motorized tool, real-world usage with the floorhead and turbo mode brings that time down to about 25 minutes. The battery is removable, allowing you to purchase an additional one for £79.99, although this raises the overall cost of the vacuum.

Easy Maintenance

Maintaining the HomePro is straightforward. The brush roll can be easily removed with a twist to clear any tangled mess, and the efficient bin-emptying system ensures a hassle-free clean-up after use.

Price and Availability

The Vax HomePro Pet-Design is available in the UK, with an RRP of £319. However, it can be found for £199 from retailers like Amazon, Currys, and Vax. When purchasing directly from Vax, you’ll also receive an additional £50 worth of attachments, making it an even better value.

At this price point, the HomePro offers a range of features typically found in higher-end models, making it an excellent option for pet owners and anyone looking for a reliable, low-maintenance vacuum.
