In a Suning.com offline store in Beijing, sweeping robots were placed in a prominent position. Reporters saw that the shopping guide was introducing the various functions of the sweeping robot to customers. The shopping guide revealed that as the Spring Festival approaches, there are more customers in the store, and the sales of smart cleaning appliances have increased significantly. Sweeping robots have also become a popular lottery product for many companies’ annual meetings.

“The family must be cleaned up during the Spring Festival. This time I bought a sweeping robot mainly to reduce the burden of housework and improve the quality of life.” A gentleman who was experiencing the sweeping robot in the store told reporters.

Some people seek convenience, while others calculate economic accounts. Ms. Zhou added a sweeping robot to her shopping cart: “It’s expensive to hire a part-time worker in Beijing, and the price will increase during the Spring Festival. A sweeping robot generally costs around 3,000 or 4,000 yuan, and the cost can be covered in a year.”

At the same time, e-commerce platforms have also become the main channel for young consumers to buy smart home appliances. On the best-selling list of sweeping robots on JD.com, the reporter saw that the sales of products from brands such as Ecovacs, Stone, and Xiaomi were at the top, with sales of more than 5,000 units on the 15th.

Sweeping robots “fight” spring cleaning

To get rid of bad luck and welcome the New Year, spring cleaning has always been a traditional custom during the Spring Festival. However, in order to gain more rest time, young people have handed this burden to sweeping robots.

“Getting up early to clean up is the most painful thing for me during the Spring Festival.” Xiao Song (pseudonym), a post-90s office worker in Beijing, told reporters that he is usually very busy at work and often hires part-time workers, but he still has to do the tasks of sweeping and mopping the floor by himself. After buying a sweeping robot this year, he completely freed his hands.

“In addition to using it for myself, it is also to reduce the burden on the elders. The elderly at home are old, and they can’t sweep every corner, and they can’t bend down in low places. Buying a sweeping robot will save them from so much work.” Xiao Song told reporters.

With the changing times, the New Year’s goods favored by young people have become different. In addition to regular New Year’s goods such as fruits, snacks, and new clothes, more and more people tend to buy smart home appliances that can improve the quality of life. JD data shows that the top three home appliances that young people like to buy for their hometowns are large appliances such as washing machines, small kitchen appliances, and cleaning appliances such as sweeping robots. The market size may increase by 14%

According to data from an e-commerce platform, since December 2024, the sales of sweeping robots have increased by 78% year-on-year, with brands such as Ecovacs, Stone, and Xiaomi at the forefront.

In the view of industry insiders, the reason why sweeping robots are so popular is that, on the one hand, technological progress and the prevalence of the lazy economy have enabled smart home appliances to meet more consumer needs, and on the other hand, relevant policies such as “national subsidies” have just “brought down” the price of sweeping robots.

According to data from the New Fortune Industry Research Institute, the price of sweeping robots reached the “lowest in history” during this national subsidy period.

Taking the subsidized prices of various products on JD.com as an example, the price in October 2024 increased by 20% compared with the issue price, and by January 2025, the price was still at the bottom range. In the past, the price of sweeping robots was relatively stable. Generally, the previous generation of flagship or high-volume products would fall to 2,500 to 3,000 yuan. Under this round of subsidies, the flagship products of various companies have reached this price range.

It is worth mentioning that the “national subsidy” has further reduced the price of sweeping robots, and the price reduction has brought about an increase in the overall penetration rate of the industry.

According to data from Aowei Cloud Network, in the first 11 months of 2024, the sales of sweeping robots in China reached 17.6 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 38.9%; compared with sales, what is more surprising is that sales are also growing. In the first 11 months, the sales of sweeping robots reached 5.51 million units, a year-on-year increase of 29.5%. Compared with the growth rate of 3.9% in 2023 and the negative growth in 2022 and 2021, this data shows that the penetration rate of sweeping robots in 2024 will increase significantly.

An analyst in the home appliance industry pointed out that this is the first time that the sales of sweeping robots have clearly shown a situation of “increase in both quantity and price” after three years of low growth and negative growth. This shows that the industry penetration rate has been significantly improved. It is expected that in 2025, with the continuation of the “national subsidy” policy for old for new, the market size of sweeping robots may increase by 14% year-on-year.
