I’m A Green Thumb And I Believe in One Thing: Cleaning Your Patio

by BERG

After a relentless barrage of rain, sleet and high winds, garden terraces are arguably at their best.

Covered with stubborn stains from lichen, dirt, mould, moss and algae, these outdoor spaces are not only unsightly but dangerous – they can become slippery when wet.

For those with back or knee problems, traditional manual scrubbing methods can be a difficult and unpleasant task.

With this in mind, Clair Albone, senior category manager at Wicks Gardens, revealed her top strategies for restoring terraces and stopping organic regrowth.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, Ms Albone advised: “To keep your outdoor space in top condition all year round, it’s vital to remove debris and leaves regularly.

“For a deeper clean, consider using a patio and deck cleaner to effectively remove moss and algae.”

She also advocates a different approach: “Another great way to clean your terrace is with a pressure washer.

“These machines are designed to quickly and easily remove dust, grime and other debris.”

Before you begin, the area must be clear of any large objects, unwanted vegetation and all forms of debris.

For stubborn stains, she recommends pre-treating the space with a specialized cleaner.

Alternatively, setting the pressure washer to a higher intensity can also directly tackle those particularly stubborn dirt.

Finally, post-treating the surface can help eliminate any lingering spores, prevent future organic growth, and protect your patio from the elements, Ms. Alborn further said.

“This will save you time and effort when next spring arrives.”
