Although I’ve been doing product testing for years, nothing is quite as exciting as unboxing a new product and testing its capabilities. When the Vileda Steam Mop Plus arrived at my doorstep, I was excited to give it a try.
Promising to clean and remove the toughest dirt and grease stains, I was on a mission to see if it could hold its own against some of the best steam cleaners and mops on the market. My verdict? I think it can.
Vileda is a big name in floor care. Vileda is known for designing and manufacturing some of the best mops and steam mops out there, and the Vileda Steam Mop Plus is the brand’s latest offering. But as Ideal Home’s resident floor care expert, and someone who cleans floors for a living, I wasn’t expecting this steam mop to embarrass me.
Ultimately, when I unboxed and assembled this relatively unassuming steam mop, I wasn’t immediately wowed. It’s not the ugliest steam mop out there, but it’s not the most attractive either. But once I started using it to clean my laminate floors, all my doubts were put to rest. It leaves floors looking shiny and clean, is a breeze to use, heats up quickly, and has a decent 28 minutes of steam cleaning time.
During my three-week testing, I used all three steam settings on a variety of floor types in my home, including carpet and rugs. At the end of the test, I was surprised to find that even the best vacuums failed to find and remove so much visible dirt and oil. The mop head was filthy after each cleaning, but I was relieved that it can be washed and reused, which made me feel gross (in a good way) repeatedly.
The only downside to this steam mop, in my opinion, is that it doesn’t come with any tools or accessories besides the carpet glider. It also doesn’t have a pop-up handheld mop. This may limit those who like to steam clean smaller areas of their home, but if you’re just looking for a steam mop to clean hard floors and carpets, the Vileda Steam Mop Plus will do the trick. And it works very well.
