Juan Bobby, 58, opened Suck It Up Salisbury on Brown Street on Tuesday and has been doing a brisk business in the first few days.
He previously operated a store called Good as New in Wilton but decided to close that store two years ago.
Before that, he spent 30 years living the good life in the Bahamas. His wife, Anna, runs a perfume studio called The Scent Studio in the Cross Keys Shopping Center.
“I’ve wanted to open a store in town for a long time and then opened this store. It was opened by my neighbor’s dad,” said Juan, alias Bobby.
“I already have everything. I put it in a store, but I think I’ll open it again one day.”
“I provide service and repair of all makes and models of vacuum cleaners.
I buy and refurbish vacuum cleaners. I provide a one-year warranty on all vacuum cleaners I sell.
I also deal in used cars, and if someone wants to get rid of a vacuum cleaner, I’ll buy it. I don’t want to see them go to the dump. It’s such a waste. ”
“I’d say 90 per cent of vacuums are fixable.”
Bobby has made a career out of fixing broken tech.
“I started out in the business of fixing phones for 25 to 30 years,” he says.
“I’ve always had Dyson vacuums. I know them and I know how to fix them.”
“Then I thought, ‘What else can I fix? ’ I used to buy 20 or 30 vacuums at a time and resell them on eBay and Facebook.
“So far, quite a few people have come through. I posted on Facebook that a new vacuum repair centre has opened.”
“Everyone stops at the traffic lights. A lot of people turn their heads to look at us.”
His shop at 17a Brown Street was previously the Bucharest Mini Mart, which was renamed Smoke World, which was ordered to close in December.
