Attorney General Ashley Moody, joined by colleagues from 24 states, including Alabama, Texas, and Virginia, is vehemently opposing new federal regulations on washing machines proposed by Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm. Moody criticized the Biden administration for what she termed as “weaseling” radical energy policies into American households through stringent and costly regulations.
In a statement, Moody expressed her concern: “The Biden administration remains adamant on pushing these senseless policies directly into your household, this time by meddling in our laundry rooms.” She emphasized her role as a mother and vowed to resist regulations that could lead to increased costs and inefficiencies in washing machines.
The coalition of Attorneys General, led by Florida’s top law enforcement officer, accused the federal government of regulatory overreach and criticized the lack of consideration for consumer interests and stakeholder feedback in the rulemaking process. They pointed out that the regulations could result in higher appliance prices and longer washing cycles, affecting consumers nationwide.
While acknowledging the challenges in rescinding the rule, the Attorneys General are advocating for a transparent “notice and comment rulemaking” process to precede its implementation. They expressed concern that important stakeholders and states were overlooked in favor of more liberal groups and niche advocacy organizations during the regulatory decision-making.
The coalition’s letter underscores their determination to safeguard consumer interests and ensure that any regulatory changes are fair and transparent. They assert that their efforts are aimed at protecting American households from unnecessary burdens imposed by federal energy policies.
This collective action reflects growing opposition among state leaders to federal regulatory measures impacting everyday household appliances.
