Slough’s town centre is receiving a significant makeover this week, as local businesses initiate an intensive deep cleaning process using a pressure washer. This comes ahead of a crucial council meeting where the potential for a scheduled quarterly deep clean will be discussed.
Councillor Christine Hulme has proposed that Slough Borough Council commit to a systematic, three-monthly deep clean of the town centre during a session scheduled for Thursday, July 25.
In parallel, the Slough Business Improvement District, representing businesses in the area, has commissioned a comprehensive cleaning operation. This effort, which began on Monday, July 22, involves a week-long treatment of the pavements, town square, and pedestrian zones with high-pressure washing in the early morning hours.
A spokesperson for the Business Improvement District remarked, “This initiative aims to enhance the appearance of our town centre, making it more inviting for visitors and fostering a sense of civic pride.”
Councillor Hulme’s proposals include not only regular deep cleans but also exploring temporary uses for long-empty shops and seeking progress on the redevelopment plans for the Queensmere and Observatory shopping centres.
The council will deliberate and vote on these proposals during the meeting on July 25.
