Addison’s latest addition to its municipal services, the new Addison-branded sweeper, commenced operations this week, marking a significant upgrade in the town’s street cleaning capabilities.
Approved during the 2023-2024 budget deliberations, the Town Council allocated funds for acquiring a dedicated street sweeper and employing a full-time operator. Previously outsourced to a third-party vendor, street sweeping services were limited to weekly passes on main roads, bi-weekly on arterials, and monthly in residential areas. Despite the initial investment in the sweeper, the shift to in-house operations represents a slight cost savings annually compared to the previous contract, coupled with a notable improvement in service delivery.
The new strategy enables Addison to enhance the frequency of residential area clean-ups and respond promptly to specific cleaning needs (“on demand”). This proactive approach aims to reduce debris entering the stormwater system, thus bolstering environmental sustainability efforts within the community.
