In an effort to enhance city cleanliness, a new bill has been introduced to equip New York City street sweepers with ticketing cameras. This proposal, spearheaded by Assemblyman Brian Cunningham of Crown Heights and co-sponsored by Assemblywoman Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn of Williamsburg, Assemblywoman Maritza Davila, and Assemblywoman Grace Lee of the Lower East Side, aims to tackle parking violations more effectively.
The bill seeks to install cameras on street sweepers that would capture images of vehicles parked in Alternate Side Parking zones during designated cleaning hours. The goal is to ensure that curbs are clear and accessible, a task that has become increasingly challenging, especially during the sweltering summer months.
By implementing this technology, the legislation hopes to improve the efficiency of street cleaning operations and maintain the cleanliness of NYC streets.
