Dyson’s innovative Submarine, a self-contained wet roller head, is now available in the UK, following its release in the US, Canada, and Australia.
I had the opportunity to preview the Submarine at Dyson’s Singapore headquarters nearly a year ago and was quite impressed by its fresh approach to floor cleaning. Now that I have one in hand, I will be providing a comprehensive review shortly.
The Dyson Submarine, while groundbreaking, does come with a notable drawback: it is not compatible with existing Dyson vacuum models, including the newer Gen5 Detect series. Compatibility will be limited to models released in 2024 and beyond, necessitating the purchase of a new vacuum if you wish to use this accessory.
The first vacuum to feature the Submarine head is the Dyson V15s Detect Submarine, a specialized version of the V15 Detect designed for both wet and dry cleaning. The Submarine head attaches to the vacuum’s tube similarly to other cleaning heads, but older Dyson models lack the necessary software to fully integrate with the Submarine. As a result, while the vacuum’s motor will continue to operate, it will not interact with the water component of the Submarine head.
Despite this, there is no risk of water issues affecting the vacuum, as the Submarine’s water is contained within the head and does not mix with the vacuum cleaner’s internal components. Essentially, the Submarine head functions independently, with the main vacuum motor remaining inactive during its use.
