Cordless vs. Corded Vacuums: A Pet Owner’s Wake-Up Call

by BERG

Vacuuming can often spark disagreements in households, particularly when dealing with the cumbersome task of dragging a bulky vacuum cleaner across rooms. While modern vacuum designs have mitigated some of these challenges, the chore remains demanding. Recently, cordless vacuums have gained popularity for their convenience and speed, making them especially popular in compact living spaces. However, they may not always meet the needs of pet owners or those with larger homes.

A striking example of this comes from Lyndsey Garvey, who shared her experience with a cleaning Facebook group after a dramatic switch from cordless to corded vacuuming. According to the Manchester Evening News, Garvey, who had relied on cordless Shark vacuums for four years, was astonished and “disgusted” by the amount of dirt and pet hair her previous vacuum had missed. Her new corded Shark model quickly filled up with grime from just one room, despite her daily cleaning efforts.

Garvey voiced her frustration online: “I’ve had two different cordless Shark vacuums in the past four years. Switched to a corded one today. This is after hoovering just one room, which was previously hoovered every single day! Disgusted, I’ll never go back to cordless!”

The post sparked a flurry of responses. Group members were eager to learn more about the corded vacuum, which Garvey revealed was currently discounted from £329.99 to £239 on Amazon. Some users praised the corded model, especially for managing pet hair effectively. One commenter noted, “I’ve got the same exact vacuum and the same gorgeous lab. The best vacuum I’ve had so far, our labs are shedding so much at the moment.”

Others defended the cordless option, highlighting its convenience for quick, daily clean-ups. One busy mother remarked, “The cordless for running around after the toddlers daily and the corded for a deeper clean once a week. It makes sense that a battery-powered one isn’t as powerful? I couldn’t live without a cordless again as they are so handy to whip around in a hurry.”

This debate illustrates the differing needs and preferences between cordless and corded vacuums, especially for pet owners and larger households. While cordless models offer convenience, corded vacuums may provide the deep cleaning power required for more demanding tasks.
