In a bid to stand out in the increasingly competitive robot vacuum market, Samsung Electronics has introduced advanced voice recognition technology in its latest Bespoke AI Steam all-in-one robot vacuum. This innovation underscores the growing role of artificial intelligence in modern home appliances.
Recent data from market research firm Open Survey reveals that 48.5% of 400 prospective robot vacuum buyers consider voice recognition a significant factor in their purchasing decisions.
Last month, Samsung updated its AI voice assistant, Bixby, enhancing its capacity to understand context and process natural language commands across its AI-integrated home devices. The Bespoke AI Steam utilizes this upgraded technology, enabling users to manage basic functions and schedule cleaning tasks through conversational voice commands.
A Samsung representative demonstrated the system’s user-friendliness, noting that commands like “Clean in front of the TV” or “Clean the bedroom” direct the vacuum to specific areas. The device can also handle more complex instructions, such as “Stop cleaning and schedule a clean for 10 a.m. tomorrow,” executing multiple commands simultaneously.
Furthermore, the Bespoke AI Steam integrates with Samsung’s SmartThings ecosystem, allowing it to control other smart home devices. For example, a command like “Turn off all the lights” will switch off lights throughout the house.
Samsung highlighted that this voice control capability is especially advantageous for older users who may find app-based controls cumbersome. While operating the vacuum via an app involves several steps—opening the app, selecting the device, choosing the vacuum, and pressing the clean button—a single voice command can initiate cleaning instantly.
