Dyson WashG1 Review: Innovative Wet Cleaner with Room for Improvement

by BERG

The Dyson WashG1 marks the brand’s first foray into dedicated wet cleaning, employing a unique three-pronged method of hydration, agitation, and separation. This design adds water, uses rollers to scrub dirt, and separates wet and dry waste for easier disposal, contrasting with typical wet-dry cleaners that combine all waste into one messy mix. Dyson claims this approach prevents clogs, simplifies maintenance, and eliminates unpleasant odors during use.

In my testing, the WashG1 impressed with its maneuverability and cordless design. The lightweight structure and minimalistic dock add to its appeal. It effectively tackled various spills, easily separating solid debris from liquids, making it particularly useful for families dealing with mealtime messes.

However, the device has its drawbacks. It excels at surface dirt but struggles with deeper grime, such as in grout lines, and had difficulty on uneven flagstone floors. Design issues also emerged, including tricky water tank closures that occasionally led to leaks, and a screen that failed to provide helpful information.

While some of these issues might be excusable, they are less so given the high price point. Additionally, it’s important to note that the WashG1 cannot replace a vacuum cleaner, as it falls short in effectively capturing dry dust and pet hair.
